Jacobean Corsetry

Jacobean Corsetry

A tight squeeze

In Virginia Street, Glasgow – a lightly off the beaten track back street, there is a beautiful shop signage of a Corset makers – Jacobean Corsetry. This is what I love about Glasgow, you turn your head and look down a side alley between the grand old buildings and you spot a little piece of magic.

The shop opened in 1946 and sold corsets to department stores across Scotland. It finally closed in 2000. The building is A-listed (like Grade I listed) and has actually been named Jacobean Building in honour of this shop and it’s amazing signage.
